Have you ever wondered how your company’s web efforts compare to those of your competitors? You should do so because their efforts reflect the effort and cost needed to compete in Denver’s tree service markets. The Denver tree service web market is highly competitive. Arborscape dominated the market between 2010 and 2019. In 2019, Fielding Tree unseated them and held the lead for two years. Ross Tree overtook Fielding in 2022 and continues to receive more organic traffic than other locally owned and operated competitors. We added Natural Way, DLC and Tree per request, so the analysis focuses on the fifteen tree companies ranked by organic search traffic.

In 2025, Ross maintains its dominance, with the following four companies changing places throughout the year. Fielding has regained second place this summer and has kept it. Ross Tree and Fielding marketing activities are above average 7 times. Click the link below to see the Marketing Mix comparison.

The top ten companies use WordPress. Autumn Tree also uses this CMS, so that makes eleven. WordPress has SEO plugins, with Yoast being the most popular. WordPress plugins bring discipline to the SEO effort and may create a competitive advantage.

Points of Competition on the Web

Below is where these Denver companies compete online.

Facebook: Facebook creates a community that follows a company’s activities, building a brand and establishing a voice of authority. Seven out of the 15 companies actively post on Facebook. Fielding’s and Autumn Tree’s efforts are noteworthy. Tree companies in Denver need to post and manage their Facebook pages to remain competitive.

Blogging: YTD, four companies wrote more than 5800 words in 2025. The average blog word count of five companies is above 699. Blogging is a crucial off-page SEO and can create a competitive advantage if the content is original and trustworthy. Fielding no longer dates its blogs, so we do not count them because they have evolved into more traditional web page copy. Downs Digital wrote most the blogs on DLC’s website five years ago so we know what is new.

Google Business Profile: All companies but two are actively trying to increase their reviews on this platform. We strongly recommend that companies actively solicit Google reviews from their customers. It just makes sense that the number of reviews and their quality, as well as the active management of GBP pages, are part of Google’s Algorithm.

Instagram: Instagram started as a Facebook-like platform with a focus on pictures, but people of all age groups now use it. Fielding and Splinted are actively growing their followers on this platform. Five companies are starting to post on Instagram.

Yelp:  Yelp is under pressure from Google Guaranteed Business. Downs Digital recommends managing company pages, but only use them organically.

Downs Digital is unsure why Splinted Forest’s organic ranking dropped dramatically this month, placing it in the middle of the pack after it had held the second position for most of last year. However, their blogging is down compared to the previous year. Last year, Fielding dropped out of its top position and was mid-ranked for half of 2024, which must have been frustrating since it blogs and posts more on social media than its competitors. Fielding, starting this summer, regained its second position.

Organic Goodwill

Over the years, Downs Digital has observed that companies with a long-standing presence in the market tend to have organic goodwill. Gut feel suggests that Donovan Arobor and Jones Tree, by utilizing the right marketing mix and a sustained an off-page SEO effort, could significantly increase their organic traffic.

Why is Web Presence Helpful?

Sometimes, word of mouth or referrals do not generate enough business to meet organizational goals. There are three key reasons why having a dominant organic ranking is essential.

  1. The more people who find your company using Google search, the better, because these clicks can convert into potential jobs.
  2. In the long run, organic search traffic is the most cost-effective way to find new customers.
  3. The cost of building a web presence usually has a strong ROI.
